MAPEI UltraCoat ReNewIt System is a no-sand recoat system that allows you to recoat an old wood floor without sanding. It can be applied to an existing prefinished floor or site-finished job without creating dust in the home.
The ReNewIt System uses all water-based products and is fast-drying. Depending on how large the space is, you can recoat your hardwood floor in one day. For this system, you will need a buffer, microfiber mop, and T-bar applicator or roller.

Step 1 of Mapei Ultracoat ReNewIt System: Remover
The first step in the MAPEI UltraCoat ReNewIt System begins with ReNewIt Remover. The remover takes off old maintenance products that the customer has used on the hardwood flooring. It’s designed to take off acrylic wax, Mop N Glow or any kind of polish that may have been applied. It’ll also help remove grease and residue in kitchen areas as well.
Apply the Ultracoat ReNewIt Remover to the wood flooring and then agitate it with a buffer (either a red, white, or green pad). After an area has been buffed, the residue will need to be cleaned off the flooring before you move to another section.
Focus on a three or four-foot section down the length of the room and work your way across the room. Once you’ve done that, move on to the next step using the cleaner.
Step 2: Cleaner
The ReNewIt Cleaner will help get the residue of the remover off and leave a fresh, clean-looking appearance to the hardwood floor. The cleaner is applied with a microfiber mop and dries within 20 to 30 minutes. With the clean floors achieved, the next step is using a primer.
Step 3: Primer
The ReNewIt Primer is step three of the MAPEI UltraCoat ReNewIt System. This primer is a two-component product, meaning you will combine the components together before use. Just add the hardener into primer and shake vigorously. After that, open the lid and allow the mixed product to rest for 5 to 10 minutes before applying it.
At this point you will have an hour to an hour and a half to apply the primer. It is intended to be applied in a very thin coat with a microfiber mop.
With each of these products expect to get coverage of about 1,000 square feet per gallon.
Once you’ve applied the primer in a thin layer with no heavy spots, no drips, or no runs, it will dry in about an hour. You are then ready to apply the High Traffic finish.
Step 4: of the ReNewIt System: Finish
Finish off the ReNewIt System with one or two coats of High Traffic.
You may find that there are two different kinds of customers. Those who are only interested in fixing up the home to sell. For this scenario, you will suffice with one coat to give a nice even shine and a new look to the floor.
There are also customers who are moving into the house and want the maximum protection on their floors. For these customers you will want to apply two coats of finish.
High Traffic is a two-component finish. Just like you did with the Primer, you will add the crosslinker component into the product, shake vigorously, and let it set again for 5-10 minutes. After this short rest, the product is applied with a T-bar applicator or nap roller. Expect to get coverage at 500 square feet per gallon for High Traffic finish.
What if there are marks on the floor?
One of the things that you get into with an older floor is that it’s going to have some “character” to it. These could be scratches, gouges, dents, or other wear marks.
To hide these, you can use art markers or Sharpies to blend to the right floor color. You’ll do this only after using the remover and the cleaner, but before the primer and finish coat. Once you are satisfied with the color “repairs”, you will then proceed to apply the primer and finish as described above.
